Getting Ready for a City Break in Greece
Greece has a lot to offer and discover, besides, it’s quite an affordable destination that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
If you are planning a short trip to Greece, these tips will help you make the most out of your stay.
Avoid Peak Times

Most popular destinations in the world are often crowded and prices high. And no, Greece is not different. However, if you avoid visiting during the high season (European summer, from June to the end of August), your experience will be more enjoyable and affordable.
So, I always suggest avoidig visiting during the high tourist season if yours is a short getaway and you’re looking for a low-key vibe. If you go during the high season, you’ll find that the sights and streets are crowded, and temperatures will be higher than usual.
You’ll have a much more enjoyable experience if you go during the low season. Head to Greece in late May, September, and October.
Research and Plan Ahead

Greece is a great ddestination for a quick city break, but a short stay does not mean you can avoid doing some research. Pick one or two destinations that you’d like to visit and then try to find accurate information about the places.
Discover which are the most popular attractions, the highlights you will want so see, and unique hidden spots that not everyone knows about. Trust local sources like this blog for update information.
Short of ideas? Big islands like Rhodes, Corfu or even Crete have a wider offer of activities in the low season and prices are often more affordable. Besides, it will be easier to find flights or ferry connections all year round.
Take Plenty of Pictures

Greece is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, so you’ll want to capture every bit of it. You’ll want to take lots of pictures, as well as videos.
You can even use your drone to get beautiful aerial shots. To ensure you don’t run out of space, clear out any unnecessary files from your devices before traveling, focus on possible duplicated items from your devices and invest in additional memory cards to ensure you don’t run out of space.
Stay in a Rental Home

This is a sensible tip if you’re looking to cut costs while experiencing what is actually like to live in your destination. Check for a rental home, a vacation house, or a seafron appartment to experience life in a Greek city and get in touch with the locals.
Looking to save up to the last dollar? Go for shared spaces. You can find rooms for rent madde available by locals who are renting out a bedroom in their home. And it’s very easy to interact with them.
This way, you can learn more about Greek culture, while your hosts can offer valuable advice and recommendations on things to do and places to visit. This allows you get the best experience possible.
Go on a Guided Tour

If you want to see as many places as possible but don’t have the time to do it on your own, consider taking a guided tour. If you’re short of time, pick a tour that visits several places in a day.
Many tour operators offer guided city break tours all over Greece, but also locals host experiences that are really unique and let you experience the town at a different pace.
If you are traveling with friends or your family, guided tours are a great way to go, as you don’t have to worry much about entertainment and activities.
Learn Some Greek

You can find a list of standard greetings and phrases online or use an app such as Duolingo, Memrise, or Google Translate to help you learn essential words, get around quickly, and immerse yourself in the local culture.
If you want to be able to communicate with the locals, it is a great idea to learn a few phrases in Greek. This will help you communicate with the locals and make some new friends while you are here.
Relax and Enjoy

There are so many things to do and places to visit in Greece… However, you also want to ensure you relax and enjoy the view occasionally.
You can sit in one a cafe for a stop during sightseeing, or sit at a traditional taverna to discover local food. You can spend hours on the warm sand at any beach or explore the rugged landscape of the islands. In big towns, you can have a drink at a rooftop bar and soak in the unique atmosphere.
