Kalambaka is the transport hub and livelier base for visiting Meteora — it’s where most buses and organized tours arrive, and where you’ll find a broad range of hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops, and services.

By contrast, Kastraki, a smaller traditional village just ~2 km away, is quieter and closer to some monastery trails — ideal for early photographers or hikers — but has fewer restaurants and nightlife options. Most travelers stay 2–3 nights so they can catch both sunset and sunrise tours, explore monastery paths, and enjoy leisurely walks around town.

Tips for booking accommodation in Meteora

When to book

• Peak season (May–September): Book 2–3 months ahead to secure the best rooms and views, especially for properties with Meteora view balconies.
• Shoulder season (April & October): Great weather and easier availability.
• Winter: Fewer visitors and lower prices, but many smaller guesthouses may be closed.

View & location tips

• Ask for a room with a “Meteora view” when booking — rooms facing the rock formations are particularly magical at sunrise and sunset.
• Kastraki is ideal if you want quiet nights and close hiking access.
• Kalambaka town center is best if you want convenience, nightlife, and transport access.

Transportation

• Kalambaka’s train station is currently closed, so direct train connections from Athens and Thessaloniki are not operating at the moment. Travelers can reach the area by intercity bus or drive, and in some cases, combine train routes with bus transfers to complete the journey.
• If you don’t rent a car, most hotels can help arrange tours, taxis, or shuttles to the monasteries — ask before booking.

Meteora is the second most visited destination in Greece after the Acropolis, and once you stand beneath those towering rock pillars crowned with centuries-old monasteries, you immediately understand why. Its popularity means that tours — especially the well-organized half-day Meteora tours — often sell out, particularly from spring through autumn. I highly recommend booking the half-day Meteora tour with the company I personally used, as it offers a relaxed, informative experience without the stress of navigating on your own. Make sure to reserve your spot in advance to avoid disappointment, as last-minute availability can be very limited during peak season.

Where you choose to stay in Kalambaka will shape your Meteora experience. If you prefer easy access to transport and a wide range of services, Kalambaka is ideal. If a quiet, panoramic mountain vibe is your priority, Kastraki or hillside guesthouses are perfect.

Our last trip around some of the Cycladic islands included a three-day stay on Antiparos. This tiny little island standing close to Paros was a complete surprise to us. It boasts a beautiful green landscape and a delicious seaside promenade lined up with tiny hotels and tavernas.

At the end of this walk, offering a fantastic view of the harbor and the town, lies Kouros Village Antiparos, our home while on the island. 

About Kouros Village

Kouros Village Antiparos is a resort that respects the traditional Cycladic style of beautiful, squared houses, with doors and windows tinted in pastel tones.

Kouros is enhanced with modern architectural elements, including recently restored studios in a perfect Swedish style, that will leave you speechless.  

The resort counts with three buildings that face the sea while the pool and the garden are the perfect places for a lazy afternoon.

Right from the pool, the design of the place allows you to enjoy a magnificent view of the church and windmill in the harbor area.

Also close to the pool, a shaded patio, also with a sea view, is a perfect place to start your day with a breakfast à la carte.

The breakfast menu offers a variety of homemade omelets and pancakes, international flavors, and one of the best Greek yogurt I’ve ever tried.

The area devoted to breakfast is also ideal to relax in the afternoon, sipping a cocktail or a coffee, reading a book from their library, or engaging in a game of tavli.

Kouros Village Rooms & Studios

Our room was a studio with all the necessary comforts. It had a wide kitchen, two big rooms, and a renewed bathroom.

My favorite part was the wide balcony, with a table and comfortable chairs, where I was able to sit in the afternoon and work. All this with the stunning view of the town and the sea.  

However, the offer does not end there. Kouros Village offers a variety of apartments, studios, suites, and double rooms too.

They all have balconies and sea views, air conditioning, and TV. Most types of accommodation have a small kitchen while the double rooms have a fridge instead.  

The atmosphere is ideal for families with children, and the structure offers baby cots without extra charge.

Kouros Village Antiparos offers free wireless internet in the reception, the restaurant, and around the pool. But, to be honest, it was available in our room too!  

Time to Swim!

The swimming pool remains the focal point of the resort. The sunbeds around it are extremely comfortable, making it a great place for sunbathing and naps.  

Our children loved the pool, while we, parents were happy to learn that it is filled with fresh water and that a high-quality cleaning system and daily control of the level of antiseptic chemicals guarantee a hygienic swimming environment.  

How to Get There

Kouros Village is on the seashore in a quiet residential area at the end of the harbor. Several ferries from mainland Greece and other islands dock in Parikia on Paros.

The ferry for Antiparos leaves from Pounta, (about 7 km from Parikia), which you can easily reach on a local bus. The ferry takes 5-10 minutes to cross to Antiparos.

There is also a direct boat from the port of Paros to Antiparos during the summer and takes about 30 minutes.

Those who miss the last Pounta ferry or who want to leave Antiparos very early in the morning can also choose a taxi boat.

Not far from Naxos Chora, Agios Prokopios is a small seaside village about 5 km from the center and you can easily travel between Agios Prokopios and Chora with the frequent public bus. You can also take a taxi for around € 10.

In the evening, you can walk along the seaside promenade or stop for dinner in a taverna by the sea. Agios Prokopios is a great place for a relaxing vacation, home to one of the nicest beaches on the island.

Conveniently close to Chora by car, Plaka is still far enough to enjoy a secluded stay close to the best beach in Naxos.

Personally, I think this is the most beautiful beach on the island, so staying in the area is a perfect solution if you enjoy long hours on the beach, and a more relaxed pace than what you’ll find in Chora or Agia Anna.
